A Letter to My Son on His 2nd Birthday: My Sweet, Handsome Boy

a letter to my son on his second birthday

Dear Aleo,

Happy 2nd birthday, my darling! It’s hard to believe that two years have passed since you came into our lives and filled our hearts with an immeasurable amount of love and joy. Today, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on our journey and express my deep admiration and love for you, my sweet boy.

A Celebration of Life:

Your birthday this year arrived just a week after a heartbreaking event – my miscarriage. Yet, even in the midst of my grief, I wanted to celebrate your special day and ensure that you felt cherished and loved. Your presence in our lives has been a shining light, a reminder of the blessings that we are fortunate to have. You are a true gift from God, and I count my lucky stars every day for having you as my son.

Sibling Love:

Being a mother to both you and your sister has its challenges, but watching the bond that the two of you share is something truly magical. You have become the best little brother, caring for your sister and always watching out for her. Your protective nature is heartwarming, and it brings me immense joy to see the love you have for your family.

Your Fearless Spirit:

Aleo, your fearlessness knows no bounds. From jumping off the bed with no hesitation to exploring the world around you, your bravery both amazes and worries me. I must admit, it gives me a touch of anxiety at times, but I also realize that it is a testament to your strong and adventurous spirit. You teach me every day to be courageous and to embrace life’s challenges head-on.

Unforgettable Memories:

Your mischievous nature often leads to messes, faster than I can clean up the previous one. But this phase of constant exploration and discovery is where you need me the most, and I am honored to be there for you. Your playful nature, your love for puzzles, dinosaurs, and cars, all create unforgettable moments that I will treasure forever.

Your Infectious Smile:

Oh, that smile of yours, my precious boy! It has the power to light up a room and melt hearts. I can already envision the day when girls will fall head over heels for you. But for now, I get to bask in the radiance of that mesmerizing smile, and it fills my heart with so much joy.

Growing Together:

As you turn two, I want to capture and hold on to this phase forever. Though it may be exhausting, I know that I will look back on these years with fondness and a sense of nostalgia. Watching you grow and witnessing the person you are becoming is an incredible privilege. You are the beat of my heart, and I cannot wait to see the amazing things that lie ahead for you.

Favorite Phrases and Songs:

I can’t forget to mention some of your favorite phrases and songs that bring so much joy to our lives. Your adorable expressions like “mama mine” and “mama only” make my heart melt every time I hear them. And when you say “not like dat” with your little voice, it’s both amusing and endearing. One of the sweetest moments is when you say “I yav you” with such sincerity, and it fills me with a love that knows no bounds.

Your love for music is evident in the songs you enjoy. You have a fondness for the playful tune of “5 Little Monkeys” that we sing together, and it always brings a smile to your face. It also warms my heart to see your love for Arabic songs, as I strive to raise you as a bilingual child. Your favorites include “Alif Baa Boubeye,” “Waynek ya Lulu,” “Baba Fein,” and the catchy “Bum Bum” by Mohammad Ramadan. Your excitement for these songs not only makes me happy but also reinforces our cultural heritage.

The Photoshoot

As you grow at lightning speed, I wanted to create a second birthday photoshoot that reflected the theme of “growing too fast” but with a twist. Instead of vibrant colors, I opted for a classic and vintage feel, focusing on black, silver, and white tones.

The centerpiece of the photoshoot was a vintage car, adorned with a number 2, symbolizing your milestone age.  Alongside the car, we had a custom-made black and white cake, featuring a vintage car as the cake topper.

Though I had intended to include suspenders in your outfit, I  forgot to pack them with me to the photoshoot but that’s okay because you looked incredibly dapper and adorable in your ensemble: a black bow tie, a crisp white button-up shirt, dress pants, and those darling Oxford shoes.

As I look back on the photographs from that day, I am reminded of how swiftly time passes and how precious each moment with you is.
